Canadian live-in Caregiver Program

The Live-in Caregiver Program is the perfect way for experienced nannies and caregivers to find employment in Canada. On this program nannies/caregivers need to be qualified to care independently for children, seniors, or people who have disabilities. After completing at least 2 years of work in Canada under the Live-in Caregiver Program, you can apply for Permanent Residence in Canada. In order to qualify for this program you need to meet the following 3 requirements:

 

  1. Successful completion of the equivalent of a Canadian high school education. In some countries this may mean you need to have at least 2 years of post secondary education.
  2. Six months of full-time training or 12 months of experience paid employment. This employment has to be in a field or occupation related to the job you are seeking as a live-in caregiver. 
  3.   Ability to speak read and understand either English or French.
  4.  Must have clean criminal record check (In case of overseas nannies, there is necessary to get criminal record check in country of your permanent residence)
  5. Must pay a fee for processing of application. Contact the Canadian Consulate or Embassy to find out about the fee. Fee only covers the cost of handling the application. You will not get your money back, if visa office refuses your application.

Other documents which may be required for your work permit application are:

  1. Valid passport
  2. Original birth certificate
  3. Validated and authenticated educational certificates and transcripts for high school and college/university
  4. Police clearance from every country where you have lived or worked
  5. First Aid Certificate (if you have one)
  6. Minimum 2 letters of reference (in English)
